Aluminum 6101 flat bars have excellent mechanical properties and good electrical conductivity. They also have good formability and workability. They can be cold as well as hot-formed. This feature is very limited in the other grades of aluminum alloy. They are easily extruded and their welding and machining can be done using the most basic processes. Aluminum 6101 Flat bars require oil-based lubricants for the machining processes. The tools which have carbides and have high speed are used for the machining process along with the lubricants. Annealing and aging methods are required to be done as an alternative to heating treatment since Aluminum alloy 6101 does not react to heat treatment.

. The annealing in aluminum 6101 is done with heating at approximately 450 degrees Fahrenheit and it is followed by the procedure of cooling which has to be controlled and closely inspected. The technique of cooling in the air can be used as well. Another annealing technique called stress relief annealing technique is also used. Aging and cold working are also used as techniques for the cold forming of Aluminum alloy 6101. This heat treatable wrought alloy is majorly used in applications that require moderate strength and electric conductivity as high as possible. The strength can be increased in conditions with sub-zero temperatures These bars can be welded using the most standard techniques, they are lightweight and have a very smooth finish. Aluminum Alloy 6101 bars are used in the bus bar conductors and enclosed bus electrical installations.
