The chemical compositions of EN8 and C45 plates are very similar, and both belong to the same class of medium carbon steels. The carbon and manganese content of both materials are almost same so they have similar strength, toughness, and machinability profiles. But they are both a little different in its hardness and how they respond to heat treatment, which determines how they can be used in certain engineering applications. EN8 is better for general engineering uses than C45 steel plates as it is slightly softer (150–250 HB) but easier to work with. After heat treatment, C45 steel plate, which is harder (170–210 HB), works better in parts that need to be resistant to wear. We make both plates with strict quality control, but EN8 is often chosen for cost-effective solutions, while C45 is better for applications that need higher strength and surface hardness.
